Limerick Scholarship
$100 Available to Five Winners
Write a limerick on this year's theme:
- Democracy, Not Theocracy
Available to high school and college students in the United States.
About Our 2024 Limerick Scholarship
California Freethought Day believes that secular rights, science, social justice, civic engagement, and the First Amendment should be celebrated, and wants to support students as they continue their education.
To further that goal, we've launched a social media scholarship contest for high school and college students anywhere in the United States.
We are awarding $100 each to our five favorite entries (as tweets, videos, photos, etc) who write a limerick that reflects on our theme:
Democracy, Not Theocracy
To qualify, applicants must create a public post that reflects on the above theme and share it on either Threads, X (Twitter), Instagram, or TikTok, tagging us (@FreethoughtDay) and using the hashtag #ScholarshipLimerick. The entry must be in the form of a traditional limerick.
For Example:
In a land where all voices are free,
Rules the state, not a church's decree.
Where beliefs aren't enforced,
By some holy endorsed,
Lives democracy, not theocracy.
@FreethoughtDay #ScholarshipLimerick
If your entry is submitted as a video or image, please include a plain-text version as a description or reply.
Applicants may offer up to three unique entries, but may only win once.
Content must be shared by August 31, 11:59 PM PT, of the current year to qualify.
Who are we Looking For?
To be eligible, an applicant must:
- currently attend a high school (grades 9-12) or college (any level)
- be a resident of the United States

If this sounds like you, you should apply!
