Advocacy Day
Be Heard!
Secular Advocacy Day is about connecting our community with California's lawmakers. Establishing a dialogue with those who write and vote on legislation is the most effective way to be heard.
📅 April 22 (Monday), 2024 at 8:30 AM
🎫 Registration is $10, free for students.
💻 This is an online event.

Our online event starts with information and training on several important bills that will ban underage marriage, restrict female genital mutilation, and expand telehealth options to patients.
We'll then split you into groups (with others from your district) to practice before you meet with your elected officials later that morning.
Bills We're Supporting
Each year we support pending legislation important to the secular community. This legislation often involves education, healthcare, and equality. Being unified in our message as we meet with officials, with a clear goal, helps make our meetings easy, concise, and effective.
Here you can read a bit about this year's bills, and we'll cover the details at our online orientation.
Prohibit Underage Marriage
CA AB-2924
The current law allows minors to marry under certain conditions, such as obtaining a court order and having parental or guardian consent. This bill would prohibit marriage involving minors.Prevent Female Genital Mutilation
CA AB-798
Existing law prohibits female genital mutilation, but this bill would strengthen penalties, remove religious or consent-based defenses, and make it a felony to transport a minor out of California for this purpose.Improve Telehealth Access
CA AB-2339
Currently, Medi-Cal has specific requirements and limitations regarding how and when doctors can use technology to see patients. This bill aims to update these rules, making it easier for healthcare providers to offer care through video calls, phone calls, and other digital means, ensuring these services are up to standards and properly billed.
