Advocacy Day

Be Heard!

Secular Advocacy Day is about connecting our community with California's lawmakers. Establishing a dialogue with those who write and vote on legislation is the most effective way to be heard.
📅 April 26 (Wednesday), 2023 at 8:30 AM 🎫 Registration is $10, free for students.
Register Now
Registration closes April 21, at 11 PM.
Our event starts with information and training on several important bills that we believe are vital to reproductive rights, social justice, and the quality of life in California.
We'll then split you into groups (with others in your district) to join online meetings with your elected officials later that morning.

Bills We're Supporting

Each year we select pending legislation to support that is important to the secular community. This legislation often involves education, healthcare, and equality. Being unified in our message as we meet with officials, with a clear goal, helps make our meetings easy, concise, and effective.
Here you can read a bit about this year's bills, and we'll cover the details at our online orientation.
  • Safe Haven for Services

    CA SB-36

Those who are seeking abortion or gender-affirming care in states like Texas and Florida may face fines and jail time, even if those services are provided in another state like California.
This bill would protect these patients and service providers when healthcare and related services are provided in California. It expands protections for those who come to avoid criminal prosecution or imprisonment in other states for abortion or gender-affirming care.

  • CalWorks: Supportive Services

    CA SB-260

This bill proposes to add menstrual product costs as a necessary supportive service under the California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) program, which provides cash assistance and other benefits to low-income families and individuals. Starting April 1, 2025, individuals between 10 and 55 years old would be eligible for $20 per month to assist with menstrual product costs.
