About the 2026 Nickelson Family Essay Scholarship
The Nickelson Family has entrusted California Freethought Day to facilitate a scholarship, in their name, for recent graduates of California public high schools.
We were to award a minimum of $2,500 to a graduate who writes an essay, between 300-700 words, discussing the following:

We are grateful to every student who took the time to participate in this year's Essay Scholarship program and consider its theme. After careful review, we determined that no submission this year met the standard required for the award, and we look forward to seeing future students rise to that challenge.
